In the year 1985, an innovative educational initiative was started at the Bhubaneswar Railway Station for the children wandering, begging, rag picking in and around the railway station, which later become famous as “The Platform School”.
The objective was to reach out to these underprivileged children and impart joyful education and give awareness on health and hygiene. The bright students were “mainstreamed” in formal schools. The children are taught for four hours every day with supplementary nutrition and health care services.
Till today, we have served around 700 children through 10 Platform Schools in the major railway stations of Odisha in India. This year we have mainstreamed 44 children in to formal schools.
