In protest of the growing crime against children especially in condemnation of inhuman sexual crime and murder of a 17 years old girl of Gandia, Dhenkanal, Bhubaneswar Childline had organized a silent protest on 16.3.2013 from 4.30 to 5.30 p.m. More than 400 children, community women and social activists from different organizations like Kasturba Gandhi Memorial Trust, Satyabhamapur, Cuttack, Pally Unnayan Seva Samiti, Subhadra Mahatab Seva Sadan etc. participated in the protest.
The human chain was spread from Rajmahal Chhack to Master canteen square. The participants tied up a black ribbon in their mouth and holding a placard protested silently against the horrendous crime. The protest was widely covered by the electronics and print media. Attached please find some newspaper cuttings for reference.
The protest took its shape as our natural concern towards children and obligation to our commitment for children. It is also seen that protests are organized in many forms at different places especially in the Childline organizations actively working in different parts of the state. Once again it confirms that the people of Odisha are united for the protection of our children. Of course this tragedy was not less than the disaster of Delhi Gang rape. Hence we should continue to create public consciousness and to make them aware of their responsibilities and duties to protect the children. However we are continuing the process and we all want justice in the case straight away.
